Hip pain remedies
I’ve been dealing with hip pain from ligaments moving around, a normal part of pregnancy that about half of women get, as our bodies adjust to prepare for carrying and labour.
It just started last week, so I haven’t had a chance to talk to my OB/GYN about it yet, but I’ve been reading and trying different things to alleviate the pain.
Mine happens in the night, when I’m sleeping on my sides. Being on my back is more comfortable because of the hip pain, but I read I’m not really supposed to be sleeping on my back during pregnancy, so I place pillows behind my back so I’m less likely to roll onto it.
The pain subsides in the day, after I’ve been moving around, but can be quite uncomfy in the night and morning when I’m still stiff, so I’m trying a few tips I found online to alleviate this and found a couple things improved it.
First, that exercise ball I mentioned I bought last week, I bought another for work and I sit on it all day. Hips don’t hurt in the day, but I read it was supposed to help alleviate this type of pain, so gave it a try. Since using it, I have noticed a decrease in hip pain, but also I find I don’t get uncomfortable so easily, I sit with a better posture and sitting on a bouncy ball all day is just simply more fun :)
Second, I put down a really soft, cushiony blanket below me when I sleep. DH likes the bed firm, so we couldn’t get a mattress pad for both sides, but the really soft blanket helps a lot. Although I am still waking up in the night with pain, and having to shift positions, it’s not nearly as bad.
A friend just told me that swimming helped her. There’s a pool down the street from us, so I’ll try that soon.
I also read that heat on the hips can help. I haven’t tried that, but I try massaging my hips myself as I walk around in the morning and that seems to help too.
Any other pregnant blogger get this? What worked for you?
